3.1.2 Scope of Authority for Student Organizations
Under appropriate circumstances, a student organization may be held accountable for violations of the Student Code of Conduct committed by one or more of its members. The following factors will be evaluated to determine whether the organization will be subject to conduct charges and disciplinary proceedings:
- Officer Involvement: One or more officers of the organization committed a violation while acting within the scope of their official duties.
- Member Conduct in Organizational Roles: One or more members committed a violation while acting within the scope of their organizational roles or responsibilities.
- Organizationally Supported Activities: A violation occurred during an activity or assignment that was approved, funded, or otherwise supported by the organization or by an individual acting on its behalf.
- Sponsored Events: The violation took place during an event that was endorsed, sponsored, or co-sponsored by the organization.
- Group Participation or Endorsement: A significant number of members engaged in, permitted, or encouraged the violation.
- Knowledge and Inaction: The incident occurred at an organizational facility, and officers or a significant number of members knew or reasonably should have known about the conduct but failed to take appropriate steps to prevent or report it, and/or were not forthcoming with University officials about the alleged behavior.
- Compliance Measures: The organization lacked an effective compliance program, including training and monitoring, aimed at preventing and detecting the type of behavior in question.
- Other Relevant Factors :Any additional circumstances that reasonably suggest the organization should be held accountable for the actions of its members.
All University students are responsible for knowing the information and procedures outlined in this Code. The University reserves the right to make changes to this Code as necessary, and once such changes are posted online, the changes are in effect. Substantive changes will be communicated to the students, faculty members, and University officials prior to posting online.
